Blinds Singapore: When It Makes Sense to Replace Curtains With Blinds

Your curtains have faded, the track sticks, and you are standing in the living room wondering whether blinds would work better. It depends on the room.

In many Singapore homes, switching from curtains to blinds makes sense in the living room, study and kitchen. These are rooms where you want to adjust daylight, keep the sides of the window clear or cope with steam and splashes. In bedrooms, a blackout roller blind gives full darkness, and curtains remain a good choice if you prefer a soft finish.

Our two main options for blinds in Singapore homes are Korean combi blinds, which switch between sheer and opaque panels, and roller blinds, which come in fabrics from light-filtering to blackout. For a 3-room BTO flat, a combi package starts at $488 and a roller package at $590. Both cover the living room and 2 bedrooms, and both carry a 1-year warranty.

The rest of this guide shows which rooms to switch first and where curtains can stay.

When Does It Make Sense to Switch From Curtains to Blinds?

Switch to blinds in rooms where you want to change the daylight through the day, where you want the sides of the window kept clear, or where steam and splashes reach the window. Curtains can stay where you want a soft look, such as bedrooms; for full darkness, use a blackout roller. Start with the living room and kitchen.

Sun is the main reason to switch. The UV Index in Singapore commonly reaches Very High and Extreme levels between 11am and 3pm, according to the National Environment Agency. A living room that takes that sun needs a covering you can adjust hour by hour.

What Do Blinds Give You That Curtains Do Not?

Blinds give you finer control over light and privacy than a curtain that is simply open or shut. Combi blinds alternate sheer and opaque panels, so you move between soft daylight and a darker room. Roller blinds filter or block light, depending on the fabric you choose. Both are custom-fitted to your window.

Our Korean combi blinds are available in the Decowin and Hansin lines, and the Decowin I-Touch model is cordless. Our roller blinds come in a wide range of fabrics, colours and textures, and the blind is easily adjustable to control your view through the window.

Why Do Proper Window Coverings Matter in a Singapore Home?

A proper window covering controls three things: daylight, privacy and sleep. Without one, strong sun enters the room during the day and outside light and views reach you at night. A covering you can adjust lets you choose when to let light in, and a darker bedroom can support better sleep.

Sleep is the part people forget. An AsiaOne survey found that respondents averaged 5.9 hours of sleep on weekdays, below the Health Promotion Board’s recommended seven to nine hours a day.

A blind cannot fix a late night, but a blackout roller blind can help keep out the early sun that wakes you. Browse our blinds range to see what suits each window.

Do Blinds Work in Bedrooms, or Should I Keep My Curtains?

Curtains are a good choice where you want fabric to soften a space, and some people prefer them in bedrooms for that reason. We carry Hannah night curtains for those who prefer that look.

Blinds are not better everywhere. If you want full darkness from a blind, choose a roller with blackout material, as in our Super Value Roller package. You can also mix both in one home, for example, blinds in the living room and curtains in the bedrooms if you prefer.

Can I Switch From Curtains to Blinds in an HDB Flat?

Yes. Our BTO packages are built for 3, 4 and 5-room HDB flats. A 3-room package covers the living room and 2 bedrooms. A 4-room package adds a third bedroom, and a 5-room package covers the living room, a study and 3 bedrooms.

HDB regulates the types of renovation carried out in its flats, and some need a permit while others do not. Read HDB’s renovation guidelines for your flat before you start.

Combi packages cost $588, $688 and $788 for 3, 4 and 5-room flats. Roller packages cost $590, $750 and $890. The Privyflex Venetian package costs $1,199, $1,499 and $1,699 and covers the same rooms as the other two. Privyflex is waterproof, so it also suits bathrooms and kitchens. At 3-room, the Venetian package costs more than twice the combi package.

What Should I Know Before I Switch?

We do not offer free, no-obligation site visits, so your quote is based on the measurements or photos you send. You are welcome to visit our Tampines showroom without an appointment.

Standard package prices cover standard window sizes. Non-standard windows or layouts can change the price. Send us your floor plan, window sizes or photos, and we quote from those. If you measure yourself, measure the window frame, not your old curtain, since a curtain often covers more than the window itself. Our team will confirm what is needed.

Will blinds block as much light as your curtains? For full darkness, choose roller blinds with blackout material, or keep night curtains in the bedroom. Combi blinds are built for adjustable light, so they are not the pick if total darkness is your first priority. How dark a room gets also depends on your window size and how closely the blind fits.

As of our most recent check, our Facebook page showed a 100% recommend rate from over 300 reviews. We are also CaseTrust Silver accredited and were named a winner of the Singapore SME 500 Award in 2025.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use blinds and curtains together?

Yes. One option is a blind for daytime light control and a curtain for night. Tell us when you request your quote that you want both for the same window.

Do I need a permit to switch from curtains to blinds in my HDB flat?

HDB decides which works need a renovation permit, such as hacking walls or replacing windows. Check HDB’s renovation guidelines for your flat before you start, since we cannot decide that for you.

How do I measure for blinds when I replace curtains?

Measure the window frame, not the old curtain or rail. Take the width and drop at more than one point, since frames are not always perfectly square, and send us the numbers or a photo. Our team will confirm what is needed.

Can I switch only some rooms?

You can ask. Our published packages cover a full flat, so pricing for only some rooms is confirmed when you request your quote. Start with the rooms where you want daylight control, such as the living room, and keep curtains in the bedrooms if you prefer.
